Welcome to Istanbul

The conference will take place from Monday 11 to Wednesday 13, April 2016 at the Gümüşsuyu Campus of Istanbul Technical University, which is located at the heart of Istanbul. The campus is the house for the Mechanical Engineering Department of ITU, and it is 5 minutes walking distance away from Bosphorus and Taksim Square where a wide variety of accommodation options are available.

Gümüşsuyu Campus is located in the Taksim region which has been the most significant trade and culture center of Istanbul during the 19th century and is the heart of modern istanbul. Taksim Square situated in the Beyoğlu Municipality, Istanbul, is a major tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of the Istanbul Metro network. The main street of Beyoğlu, İstiklâl Caddesi, from Taksim Square, a pedestrian street where shops, cafés, patisseries, restaurants, pubs, wine houses and clubs, as well as bookshops, theatres, cinemas and art galleries are located. Some parts of İstiklâl has a 19th century metropolitan character, and the avenue is lined with Neoclassical and Art Nouveau buildings. The nostalgic tram which runs on İstiklal Avenue, between Taksim Square and Tünel, was also re-installed in the early 1990s with the aim of reviving the historic atmosphere of the district.

How to access the venue?

The ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus can be accessed fast and easy by various means of public transportation. You can get to the campus by using the M2 metro line or T1 Tramvay line, both of which are connected to the Atatürk airport via another metro line. Moreover, buses and shared taxis are very frequently passing in front of the main gate of the Campus.  The Campus is located on İnönü Cd. which connects Taksim down to Beşiktaş. Hence, it is walking distance from the Taksim square, Beşiktaş square, and Beşiktaş Kabataş ferry docks. Taksim Metro station (M2) and Kabataş tramway station (T1) are 6 minutes walk from Gümüşsuyu Campus. For more help, here is a map of the complete Istanbul Metro, Tram & Train system

From Ataturk Airport (IST) Airport:  Take the M1A (Yenikapı-Atatürk airport line) metro line to Yenikapı station, then tranfer to the M2 (Yenikapı-Hacıosman line) metro line to Taksim station. From the Taksim metro exit, walk 6 min. through the İnönü Cd. You can also take the HAVATAŞ (Atatürk Airport - Taksim) Shuttle to Taksim. Timetables of HAVATAŞ shuttles are available here.

From Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) Airport:  You can take the HAVATAŞ (Sabiha Gökcen Airport - Taksim) Shuttle to Taksim. Timetables of HAVATAŞ shuttles are available here.

From Taksim Square: Walk towards to entry of inönü Cd., keep walking through inönü Cd., and you will see the Entry of ITU School of Mechanical Engineering.
